I guess my journey into filmmaking started way before I ever thought of it as a career. Growing up in the backwaters of Alappuzha, I’d spend hours with a small handycam, filming my neighbours, the light on the water, or just making up interviews with friends. Back then, it was just fun. Looking back, I think I was quietly learning how to see.
I studied engineering at IIT Bombay, but somewhere along the way I realised what really stayed with me weren’t formulas or circuits, it was the stories I came across while travelling. The kind you carry with you long after you’ve left a place.
I started out editing, learning the patience of sitting with a story frame by frame. Slowly, I found myself behind the camera. Since then, I’ve filmed documentaries, commercials, and projects that have taken me to places I’d never imagined and introduced me to people I’ll never forget.
Right now, I’m working on Vai Mozhi, a documentary on tribal music, identity, and displacement, and Sweeter Grass, with National Geographic. Both remind me why I do this , to hold on to voices and moments that might otherwise fade away.
For me, filmmaking isn’t just about getting the perfect shot. It’s about trust, light, and finding those quiet, honest moments that tell a story on their own, the kind that stay with you, long after the credits roll.
